I’ve been waiting to share this news for a decade because writing a book has been a not-so-secret dream of mine since I was 24! Looking back, I’m so thankful I never gave up and stayed patient because finally at 36 I can proudly say that I’ve got a book deal with HarperCollins Canada!
How It Started
To give you some insight into how it all happened, we actually need to turn back the clock to 2019. After years of author friends asking me “When are you going to write your book?” I decided I was finally going to put the wheels in motion. I knew so many people who were simply offered book deals because they’d made a name for themselves or went viral, so over the years I was secretly hoping that would happen for me too. But year in and year out, nothing. No publishers came a knockin’ while I kept on seeing more people I knew in the personal finance space get book deals or see their books rank high on Amazon.
Eventually, I got tired of waiting and decided to make it happen on my own. It was the end of 2019. I bought an e-book about how to write a book proposal, and I wrote one that I thought was going to get book agents clamouring to sign me. But as you might guess, all I got was a handful of rejections. I wasn’t famous enough. My follower count wasn’t high enough. I hadn’t gone viral for paying off debt in a crazy short amount of time or becoming a millionaire by 30. I just wasn’t exciting or big enough.
Then the world shut down in 2020 and I figured it just wasn’t in the cards for me. Instead, I put all my energy into building my Wealth Building Blueprint for Canadians course and fulfilling course requirements on my path to becoming a CFP (which I’m very close to finishing!). And that was enough for me along with running my podcast and YouTube channel, being a money expert on the news, and doing public speaking.
How It Finally Happened
But you know how people say “When you stop looking, that’s when you’ll find it?” Well, that’s pretty much what happened to me. I stopped putting “Get a book deal” on my vision board and shifted my focus to other things and then… BAM, a publisher finally reaches out interested in me writing a book for them. So, I got some new motivation to write an updated book proposal with amazing help from book coach and author Paulette Perhach. And luckily, by that time I had already secured myself my agent Jeff Lohnes from the Talent Bureau who not only reps clients for speaking engagements and brand campaigns, but book deals too! And since he had quite a few connections, we decided to shop the proposal around to see if there were other publishers interested too. Luckily, HarperCollins Canada was on board from the start and I genuinely got a good feeling about working with them. Now here I am, book deal signed and me trying to keep up with my intensive writing schedule to have a full manuscript ready for the editing process by early 2024.
Want to Be Part of My Book?
But as I write this book, I want to make sure it’s not just the best book possible but one that shares the money stories from people like you! I love when books share real-life examples from people to illustrate their points, and that’s exactly what I want to do with my book. With that, if you’d like to be part of my book, I’ve created a submission form so you can do just that! You just need to input some of your details (it’s all private, I’m the only one who will see it) and then if you’re a good fit, I’ll contact you for a one-on-one chat.
To end things off, I just want to say a big thank you to YOU! I started this blog in December 2011 and it’s only with your support that I’ve been able to get to where I am today and realize my big dream of becoming an author. So thank you!
Congratulations for your new book. Look forward for great stuff. All the best.
Thank you!
